Katowice neon signs

Katowice is a young city (granted city rights in 1865) and still modern. You could say that the gene of modernity is in our DNA. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, it was called "Eine kleine Großstadt" – "a little metropolis," a small city at the time, but already with a global, metropolitan flair.

Modern Katowice

In the 1930s, it was grandly called "Polish Chicago" due to the first skyscrapers and ultra-modern modernist buildings being constructed here. During the Polish People's Republic, Katowice could confidently be called the capital of Polish neon signs and the most brightly lit Polish city, with almost a thousand neon signs scattered throughout the city.

New Neons

In recent years, there has been a great comeback of noble neon forms on the streets of Katowice. Since 2010, nearly a hundred new and reconstructed neon signs have appeared in the city – both commercial and artistic forms of the most beautiful light advertising. This inspired us to show that beautiful things are being created in Katowice, in the heart of Europe. Design, tradition, and art have transformed the routine of a post-industrial city in an amazing way. So, we invite you for a walk through the streets of Katowice along the path of now-nonexistent neon signs. We have selected the most beautiful one’s for you, evoking memories of the changes and the city's rapid development in recent decades.
