In the 1970s, many new catering outlets appeared on the map of Katowice. Since facilities run by private individuals were rare, the Provincial Consumer Cooperative „Społem” became a monopoly on the market, bringing together dozens of catering outlets: cafes, restaurants, fast food restaurants and teahouses. Although it may be hard to believe, there were as many as fourteen establishments operating on Stawowa Street alone! One of them was the teahouse „Randia” at number 12. The neon sign advertising it is a real gem – a teapot from which a cloud of steam emerged in a cycle of four sequences. The creator of this project was the late engineer Zbigniew Łankiewicz. Mr. Zbigniew took his first steps in a state-owned company to establish NEON-IRSA, now run by his sons, after several decades of practice. It was the Łankiewicz brothers who commissioned the Strefa Centralna club-café and the Katowice Neon Store located in the building of the Katowice Cultural Institution – City of Gardens (pl. Silesian Parliament 2) recreated the neon sign of the teahouse on a 1:1 scale, which can be seen during the club-café's operating hours.
