The light installation „WE ARE BUILDING PARK OF CULTURE” is a good example of non-commercial neon. Unlike many others that advertised shops or catering facilities, this one promoted involvement in social activities. The park in question is today's Silesian Park, i.e. the Voivodeship Park of Culture and Recreation – one of the largest and most spectacular investments of the 1950s. 20th century in our region. A devastated area of wasteland on the border of Katowice, Chorzów and Siemianowice has been reclaimed, creating a park over 600 hectares, more than twice the size of New York's Central Park. Initially, it was partly located in Katowice, but only in 1967 the administrative boundaries between Katowice and Chorzów were changed, thanks to which the entire Park became entirely within Chorzów, and in return the areas where the Tysiąclecia housing estate was later built were incorporated into Katowice.
The neon sign itself, apart from the inscription, included the outline of two working figures. It was not the only neon sign of this type in the Market Square area – on one of the neighboring buildings there was an installation encouraging support for the Social Fund for the Reconstruction of the Capital.
