A neon sign for the Chorzów Zoo flickered on the roof of the tenement building, inviting: "VISIT THE ZOO." Between 1972 and 1974, the Cooperative Department Store "Skarbek" was built on the site of the historic buildings, according to a design by architect Jurand Jarecki. Over time, the building has become one of the many icons of Katowice architecture, thanks to both its modern form for its time and its special facade covered with embossed aluminium sheet metal imported specifically for "Skarbek" from France.
